Young Actors Online Spring Semester

Strasberg Summer Online!

This summer, we’re taking the Young Actors at Strasberg Online! Our summer programs are designed to immerse our students into a creative process and develop technical performance skills in a supportive, exciting, and focused environment.

KIDS CAMP GRADES 2- 5

Our Kid’s Summer camp week is designed for students looking for a fun and exciting week developing basic acting skills and creativity. Students will take classes in Method Acting, Movement, Improv and Audition.

TEEN WORKSHOPS

2 WEEKS – Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Our 2-week conservatory-style Teen Workshops are designed for students seeking a concentrated immersion in Lee Strasberg’s Method Acting. This summer, we are offering three themed intensives.

TEEN WORKSHOP A – CREATING YOUR OWN WORK

Students will explore their creativity as an artist. They will employ writing, acting and improvisation exercises as a group to build out their original ideas with premise, character development, structure and theme. Students will express their creative side as actors and create their own material to use in scene work or auditions. Students will take classes in Method Acting, Improv, Creative Work, Movement and Audition.


TEEN WORKSHOP B – ACTING OUT

Students will dive into a world of comedy while breaking stereotypes in acting. They will learn to think off script and act on their actor impulses while thinking on their feet. Method Acting, Movement, Improv and Breaking Type.


TEEN WORKSHOP C – AUDITION

Students will focus on the in’s and out’s of auditions. Going through a rigorous course, they will learn how to prepare themselves, what goes on during an audition, and how to master a self-tape. Students will take classes in Method Acting, Audition, Movement and Mastering Self-Tape.

PART-TIME STUDY

Method Acting is designed to train the actor in Lee Strasberg’s systematic acting technique known throughout the world as The Method. The technique develops the actor’s ability to respond with real behavior to imaginary stimuli. This three-hour class consists of two parts: work on one’s self and work on the character.

FALL: THE WORKING ACTOR

The fall semester of the Young Actors at Strasberg program is devised to introduce students to the expectations and possibilities of the industry. A Family Day is scheduled toward the end of the term for family and friends to see their young actor in action.


GRADES 2 – 4

In addition to Method Acting, students will take companion courses designed to provide an understanding of the industry. Acting for Film & TV will allow students to recreate existing scenes from film and television. Stage Combat will provide important safety technique, a great addition to a resume, and the basics of a fun and exciting theatrical tool. Monologue will focus on finding and crafting material for students on an individual basis.

GRADES 5 – 6

In addition to Method Acting, students will take companion courses designed to provide an understanding of the industry. Acting for Film & TV will allow students to recreate existing scenes from film and television. Dance for the Actor will encourage expression and an increase in body awareness. From musical theatre dance calls to the simple act of stretching and caring for your body, movement is an integral part of an actor’s craft. Acting the Greats will give students the opportunity to work with texts written by some of the most renowned playwrights of all time, including Shakespeare, Chekov, Clifford Odets, and Tennessee Williams. Material will be selected and adjusted to be age appropriate.

GRADES 7 – 12

In addition to Method Acting, students in grades 7 – 12 will have the opportunity to choose their companion course. Acting for Film & TV will allow students to recreate existing scenes from film and television. Musical Theatre will ask students to apply their training and technique in the mediums of song and dance. Improvisation will encourage play and ask students to act and react without scripts.

WINTER: THE ON-CAMERA ACTOR

WINTER CLASSES

Saturday, January 11 – Saturday, March 14, 2020

The winter semester of the Young Actors at Strasberg program is tailored to working on-camera. Using both materials from film and tv and original scenes, students will gain a comfortability behind the lens. The winter semester culminates in the Strasberg Film Festival: Young Actors Edition where family and friends are invited to attend.


GRADES 2 – 4

In addition to Method Acting, students will take companion courses designed to increase comfortability with film and tv, while maintaining a diverse and well-rounded curriculum. Acting for Film & TV will focus on writing, directing, and acting in original material for the Strasberg Film Festival. Musical Theatre will explore material found in popular movie-musicals. Audition will provide a taste of the on-camera industry, asking students to practice slates, cold reads, sides, commercial copies, and being readers.

GRADES 5 – 6

In addition to Method Acting, students will take companion courses designed to increase comfortability with film and tv, while maintaining a diverse and well-rounded curriculum. In the winter semester, students in grades 5 – 6 will take only two companion courses to allow for more advanced work. Acting for Film & TV will focus on writing, directing, and acting in original material for the Strasberg Film Festival. Stage Combat will give students the basic tools to practice safe and realistic stage combat. Students will have the opportunity to learn moves seen in and inspired by famous action movies and fight scenes.

GRADES 7 – 12

In addition to Method Acting, students in grades 7 – 12 will have the opportunity to choose their companion course. Acting for Film & TV will focus on writing, directing, and acting in original material for the Strasberg Film Festival. Musical Theatre will explore material found in popular movie-musicals.

The spring semester of the Young Actors at Strasberg program is crafted to stimulate the imagination, activate individual creativity, and encourage spontaneity.  A Family Day is scheduled toward the end of the term for parents and friends to see their child in action.


GRADES 2 – 4

In addition to Method Acting, students will take companion courses designed to unlock the creative self. Acting for Film & TV will focus on using the camera to tell stories than cannot be told on stage. Movement will ask the students to care for and use their bodies to become more versatile actors. Improvisation will encourage play and ask students to act and react without scripts.

SATURDAYS | 10:30 AM – 4 PM

GRADES 5 – 6

In addition to Method Acting, students will take companion courses designed to unlock the creative self. Acting for Film & TV will focus on using the camera to tell stories than cannot be told on stage. Physical acting will ask students to heighten their physical presence and learn to make bold choices with their bodies. Breaking Type will allow students to abandon preconceived limitations and work on roles that break traditional rules of gender, age, or status.

GRADES 7 – 12

In addition to Method Acting, students in grades 7 – 12 will have the opportunity to choose their companion course. Acting for Film & TV will focus on using the camera to tell stories than cannot be told on stage. Musical Theatre will ask students to apply their training and technique in the mediums of song and dance. Performance will give students the opportunity to strengthen their acting skills through mock auditioning and critical scene work study.

SUMMER CLASSES

Students are introduced to Lee Strasberg’s Method at a level commensurate with their age. They will be introduced to exercises that help them express themselves with greater confidence and truth. Our summer programs are designed to offer students the opportunity to strengthen their creative process and develop technical performance skills in a supportive, exciting, and focused environment. Families and friends are invited to attend an open class at the end of the summer program.

Our 6-week conservatory-style Young Adult Summer Intensive is designed for students seeking a concentrated immersion in Lee Strasberg’s Method Acting.  In addition to a Method Acting class each day, students will receive training in Acting for Film & TV, Musical Theatre, Audition,  Movement, Improvisation, Stage Combat, and Shakespeare. An elevation from the Teen Workshop, this longer intensive allows for more advanced scene work and a deeper exploration of the Method.

Tuition: $6250


1 WEEK – Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm

Our 1-week conservatory-style Young Adult Summer Intensive is designed for students seeking a concentrated introduction immersion in Lee Strasberg’s Method Acting.  In addition to a Method Acting class each day, students will receive training in Acting for Film & TV, Musical Theatre, Audition, Improvisation, Stage Combat, and Shakespeare.

Tuition: $1450


AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

METHOD ACTING FOR TEENS (7th-12th Grade)

Method Acting is designed to train the actor in Lee Strasberg’s systematic acting technique known throughout the world as The Method. The technique develops the actor’s ability to respond with real behavior to imaginary stimuli. This two-hour class consists of two parts: work on one’s self and work on the character.

The first part of each Method Acting class begins with Lee Strasberg’s relaxation technique and then moves to his sequence of sensory exercises which train the actor’s concentration, ability to respond to imaginary objects, and organic expression. 

The second part of each of the acting classes are devoted to improvisation, scene work, and monologues where students apply what they have learned in the exercise work to fulfill the demands of a play and the creation of a role.

Tuition: $450


ACTING ON CAMERA: FILM & TV FOR TEENS (7th-12th Grade)

Camera I: Friday, March 20th – Friday, April 24th, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Camera II: Friday, May 8th – Friday, June 12th, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Lights, Camera, Action! This immersion course will give students practical experience in the best acting techniques required by most narrative Feature Films and Television Series that are shot like Features.

Students will also learn how a film is shot, the language of the film, the responsibilities of different crew members on a set and what is expected of him/her on set. Students will work on scenes and experience all of the demands that acting in front of a the camera entails. These acting classes also serves as a way to learn and practice applying The Method to their work.

Tuition: $600
