With more than four decades in film, television, and theater, Brenda James has built a career that bridges studio features, cult classics, acclaimed television, national commercials, and international stage work. She is recognized for her roles in James Gunn’s Slither and as Dr. Katie Brown in Stargate Atlantis. Her screen work includes collaborations with Gena Rowlands and James Caan (The Incredible Mrs. Ritchie), Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, Billy Baldwin, Barbara Hershey, Elizabeth Banks, Nathan Fillion, Billy Campbell, Stephen Webber and Malcolm McDowell, she also appeared in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants with America Ferrera, and projects under directors James Gunn and Dario Argento. She recently completed filming Henry, directed by Melissa Schilling and has appeared in numerous national commercial campaigns. On stage, she has played leading roles including Agnes in Agnes of God and Penny Sycamore in You Can’t Take It with You.
Brenda studied extensively with actress and teacher Susan Peretz at her Los Angeles theatre, whose mentorship profoundly shaped her artistic foundation. She is a lifetime member of The Actors Studio, accepted into membership by Sydney Pollack, Mark Rydell, and Martin Landau, where she continues to refine her work among an extraordinary community of artists. At The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, with her wide-ranging experience across film, television, theater, and commercials, Brenda substitutes across departments, including Method, bringing a well-rounded, practical, and artistically grounded perspective to her students.
