LSTFI alum John Leguizamo’s one-man show Latin History for Morons will make it’s Off-Broadway debut at The Public Theater. This will be the third time he performs at the Public Theatre since 1987. This masterminds latest creation will be directed by Tony Taccone and is a co-production with Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Latin History for Morons made it’s world premiere in California in 2016 with two successful runs at the La Jolla Playhouse and Peet’s Theatre at Berkeley Rep.
In an announcement written by the Public Theater, the show is said to be set up as a classroom in which the “outrageous, multifaceted performer schools his son – and the rest of us – on the marginalization of Latinos in U.S. history and the vital roles they played in building this country. From a satirical recap of Aztec and Incan history to stories of Latin patriots in the Revolutionary and Civil War and beyond,
Leguizamo breaks down 3,000 years into 90 irreverent and uncensored minutes in his trademark comedic style.”
The show’s themes feel devastatingly relevant and poignant. If Latin History for Morons is anything like his previous work, the show will have you laughing hysterically and leave your mind racing.
