For Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute alum Carl-Philipp Wengler, the road to professional acting has been anything but linear. Yet, in hindsight, every twist and turn played a vital role in shaping the actor he has become. From political science studies in Europe to his recent role in the German television thriller Trail of Blood Antwerp (Blutspur Antwerpen), Wengler’s journey has been marked by bold transitions and steady passion.
“I decided to attend LSTFI because it has a great legacy of excellent actors who came through this school. Personally, I’m a huge fan of Chris Evans. Growing up with Captain America, he became an idol, so I was really keen to follow in his footsteps and come to this prestigious school,” he shares.
A Shift from Political Science to Performance
Before dedicating himself entirely to acting, Wengler first pursued a different path, one grounded in academia. He began studying political science near Paris in the Champagne region city of Reims, where he completed his BA, splitting his studies between France and Berlin. Though initially committed to political science, a creative calling lingered beneath the surface. During this time, Wengler began taking short acting courses in Paris and participating in student film projects, slowly carving out space for performance in his life. That quiet passion gained clarity and direction in October 2022, when a trip to Los Angeles for a stunt course offered an unexpected turning point.
“While I was in L.A., I auditioned for a few acting schools in person, including LSTFI. I also had my interview with them. I knew exactly where I wanted to go, and the moment I got the acceptance letter, I didn’t hesitate. I knew that was it.”
Training at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute

Eventually, after working for Disneyland Paris, Wengler relocated to Los Angeles to join LSTFI’s One-Year Conservatory program. He reflects on that decision with clarity and gratitude. “LSTFI gave me an incredible toolbox as an actor and helped me grow more confident in my craft. It made a real difference. Although I filmed my most recent project before attending the school, I now know exactly how I would approach things differently, especially with the skills I gained at LSTFI.”
One of the most meaningful lessons from his training was not just how to act, but how to be a collaborator. “I’m all about being of service. If my acting helped the director achieve their vision, that’s fantastic. If I helped the DP by hitting my mark or saved time by bringing extra socks to set, even better. It may sound simple, but LSTFI taught me the significance of playing a role in the larger creative process.”
A Breakthrough Role: Trail of Blood Antwerp
Wengler’s training came into play in his most recent film, Trail of Blood Antwerp (Blutspur Antwerpen), a German TV thriller directed by Anna-Katharina Maier and produced by ARD (German National Television). The film premiered on March 22, 2025, and was shot on location in Brussels and Antwerp.
Wengler plays a supporting role: Rijk De Bruyne, a man employed by an NGO supporting African refugees while also working as a security guard. The character is caught between a sense of justice and the moral ambiguity of his actions.
“LSTFI taught me how to explore a character’s inner life, their contradictions, their fears, and their complexity. This role wasn’t black and white, and LSTFI really helped me understand how to live in those gray areas.”
Words of Wisdom for Future Actors
Looking back on his time at LSTFI, Wengler’s advice for current students reflects the ethos The Institute fosters. “First and foremost, don’t rush the process—trust it. Life experience makes you a better actor. Every step along the way matters. And second, don’t sit back and wait for the perfect opportunity. You have to put yourself out there, submit every day, and knock on every door. The industry is about creating your own momentum, and LSTFI prepares you for exactly that.”
What’s Next?
In addition to his recent success, Wengler is set to star in an upcoming Argentine film releasing this year, La Muerte de un Comediante. He will also appear in Hidden Assets and a Belgian production titled Heyzel.
Carl-Philipp Wengler’s time at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute was more than just a step in his artistic journey — it was a turning point that sharpened his instincts, deepened his technique, and solidified his commitment to the craft. Whether on set or in the rehearsal room, the lessons learned at LSTFI continue to shape his approach as a thoughtful, grounded, and dynamic actor. With a unique background, a strong work ethic, and the training of LSTFI behind him, he’s ready for whatever comes next!
