StrasbergTALKS: Estelle Parsons

“I think the word that describes Lee best is inspiration”

Estelle Parsons

On May 9, 2014, Estelle Parsons – Actor’s Studio member and longtime friend and student of Lee Strasberg – gave a StrasbergTALK about her experiences with Lee and using The Method.

Estelle had a personal relationship with Lee so she talks a lot about Lee and her work with him. She goes into detail about the work Lee did and what it was like to be in class with him. Being a big proponent of Lee and The Method, Estelle demonstrated to students how successful one can be by using The Method properly. She has utilized The Method when preparing for her countless performances on stage and in television and movies.

With her first hand experience with training with Lee at the Actor’s Studio, Estelle’s talk was a perfect mix of Strasberg history and acting instruction. She was inspirational to listen to and exudes dedication and passion.

Quotes from the talk:

“The whole idea that your are your instrument. A violinist has a violin and you have your emotional instrument… If you are going to be on Broadway it is your job to get your emotional instrument in good shape.”

“The only difference between me and you is that I’ve spent a life doing it.”
