M.J. Karmi holds an MFA in Dramatic Arts from The Actors Studio at The New School in NYC. After receiving her MFA, she auditioned for The Actors Studio in New York and was granted a lifetime membership the first time she auditioned. Before obtaining her MFA, she completed a two-year conservatory program at The Studio Theatre in Washington, D.C. and studied classical theatre at The Shakespeare Theatre at The Folger. M.J. appears in Netflix’s The Discovery alongside Rooney Mara, Jason Segal, and Robert Redford, as well as in Juke Box Hero, Before the Fire, The Wrong Husband, Answers to Nothing, Moonlight Sonata, and Julia starring Tilda Swinton. She has starred in over thirty theatrical productions. Her favorites including Blackout, a Los Angeles Times Critics Choice and LA Magazines Top 10, Road to Mecca, a Washington Post Critics Pic of the Week. Television credits include Criminal Minds, BluntTalk, Revenge, Kingdom, Guiding Light, Cold Case, Jericho, Law and Order Los Angeles, Brothers and Sisters, The Mentalist and The Awful Truth directed by Michael Moore. M.J. has been on the Faculty of The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film institute since 2008. During her years at the Strasberg Institute she has taught, Method Acting, Character Development, Scene Study, Animal Exercise, Audition Technique, Improvisation and Sensory Application. Method acting is her passion and her purpose. With a deep commitment to method acting finding profound joy teaching actors how to explore their emotional truth, unlocking their truth, push past limitations and fully realize their artistic potential.
