For the stage, Leslie Lee is the author of numerous plays that have been produced in New York City and regionally. His plays include: The War Party, Colored People’s Time, Blues in a Broken Tongue, The Rabbit’s Foot; Black Eagles, Hannah Davis; a new version of the musical Golden Boy, in collaboration with Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, Martin, also in collaboration with Charles Strouse; a musical, Phillis, in collaboration with Micki Grant, Elegy To A Down Queen, Cops and Robbers, Spirit North, Legends, The Ninth Wave, and Between Now and Then. Mr. Lee’s play, The First Breeze of Summer, received an OBIE, the Outer Circle Critics Award, and a Tony Nomination. The First Breeze of Summer was recently revived at the Signature Theater, featuring Leslie Uggams. His play, Mina, was performed at La MaMa ETC in November, 2007. Another play, The Book of Lambert, was also seen at La MaMa ETC in February, 2009. His most recent play, Sundown Names and Night-Gone Things opened at the Castillo Theater in May, 2009 and will reopen in September, 2009 for a limited run. Mr. Lee has written for television and motion pictures and has just completed a screenplay, Pushkin, about the legendary Russian poet, Alexander Pushkin, for Ida E. Lewis Productions.
