Lee Strasberg-Trained Sally Field Receives National Medal of Arts

Sally Field, will receive a National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama for showing dignity, empathy, and fearlessness in performances that have touched global audiences. Similarly, she has shown those qualities in activism for the rights and treatment of women, LGBTQ communities, and public health.

Sally Field studied directly with Lee Strasberg before landing the title role in Sybil, which not only earned her a best dramatic actress Emmy Award, but also empowered her to break past the boundaries of the typecasting that affected her sitcom work.

She went on to star in noteworthy films, such as Norma RaePlaces in the HeartSteel Magnolias, Forrest Gump, Mrs. Doubtfire, and the upcoming Hello My Name is Doris. She has won two Academy Awards and three Emmy Awards, and she is a celebrated humanitarian.
